THE BRONX, NY — The Yankees returned home from their nine game road trip, and off day to take on the Orioles in the team's first match-up of 2026. The Yankees won 7-2 and their record is 21-11.

Pitching Spotlight

Will Warren pitched very well today against an Orioles team he has struggled with in the past. He pitched six and one third innings, allowing just one earned run, a solo shot to Pete Alonso. He struck out nine and looked dominant the entire outing, only walking one.

Warren is pitching himself into more of a spot in the Yankees rotation at full health.

Hitting Spotlight

Ben Rice continues to torment pitchers. With a big opportunity to put up a big number in the second inning. After Caballero hit a solo home run to put the team up 2-1, Grisham and Goldschmidt both reached with two outs. Goldschmidt was walked on four pitches and Rice must have felt disrespected. He punished Orioles starter Cade Povich's 1-0 pitch for a three-run home run, putting the Yankees up 5-1.

It was Rice's fifth home run against lefty pitching and his 11th home run overall. The kind of production and value he has given to the Yankees thus far is special.

Notable

  • Jasson Dominguez was available off the bench for the Yankees today, had they needed it. All his tests came back clean and he is expected to be in the Yankees lineup tomorrow against Brash.
  • Anthony Volpe will stay in AA Somerset on his rehab assignment through the weekend. As of Sunday, Volpe's rehab assignment will have concluded as of Sunday (he was 0-3 today). The Yankees will have to choose to bring him up to the bigs, or keep him in AAA to build up more at-bats. If he stays in AAA for 20 days off a rehab, he will get an extra year of team control. That could make him more valuable if the Yankees choose to shop him at the deadline or in the offseason.

What's Next?

The Yankees will play a day game tomorrow against the Orioles. For the Yankees, it will be left-hander Ryan Weathers (1-2, 3.21), against right-hander Kyle Brash (1-3, 4.20). The game will be at 1:35pm on the YES Network.
