THE BRONX, NY — Sweeping for Sterling. The Yankees won 12-1 to sweep the Orioles out of the Bronx in a four game series. They did it with walking, patience, one very long ball, and big pitches on the mound. They improve to 24-11.
Pitching Spotlight
Cam Schlittler's command was a bit wild today. He still pitched 5.2 innings, giving up just one run. He walked a season-high three, including walking in a run that ended his night in the sixth inning.
His velocity was up, touching triple-digits on the fin with his fastball. Really good to see his velocity playing up tonight. It helped him get out of multiple jams.

Hitting Highlight
It was the most obvious home run ever. Trent Grisham lead off the game with a double into the gap. Up stepped Aaron Judge. Like all Yankees, he sported his hat with the "JS" on the back, honoring the late John Sterling. Judge then rocked a 3-2 pitch into the Yankees bullpen.

With the home run call, Yankees TV play-by-play announcer Michael Kay commemorated Sterling by using his infamous "It is high, it is far, it is gone" call. It made everyone who got to listen to the greatness and passion that Sterling brought to his craft to an emotional state.
Notable
- Ben Rice is still having some hand soreness. The Yankees, and Aaron Boone, don't anticipate him being out too long. The Yankees lineup was fine today, but long term, they are going to need Rice's bat in the lineup. It's promising to know it's not an IL situation for Rice.
- Anthony Volpe was officially sent to AAA. It needed to be done. I still believe that we will see Volpe at some point this season, but the Yankees are riding the hot hand with Jose Caballero for now.
What's Next?
The Texas Rangers are coming to town for a three-game series. Tomorrow, RHP Elmer Rodriguez, who started against the same lineup last week, will get his first start at Yankee Stadium. For the Rangers, it will be Jacob deGrom. First pitch will be at 7:05 pm on YES.
