THE BRONX, NY — The Yankees suffer their first loss in a week. The Yankees lost 6-1, dropping to 25-12 on the season. Will Warren struggled for the first time this season. Nathan Eovaldi dealt against the Yankees, as he does every time he faces the Yankees.

Pitching Spotlight

Warren's outing was weird today. On one hand, he struck out seven Rangers. On the other hand, he gave up six runs. His ERA jumped by more than a full run. His sinker command was very off today, and that lead to the amount of runs he gave up.

Warren has looked good this season in the outings he has had. Hopefully, this is the exception to his season, and not the rule. Everyone has a bad start every now and then. His command will need to be better as the season goes on because the three walks really hurt him.

Hitting Spotlight

It's the one person who had an RBI against Eovaldi, Aaron Judge. Judge was 0-2 on two strikeouts coming into his third plate appearance of the game. He took an 2-0 splitter and sent it into the Yankees bullpen to give the Yankees their lone run of the game.

Judge came into the game with representative numbers against Eovaldi, the only one in the Yankees lineup that can say that.

This is also the fastest Judge has gotten to 15 home runs in a season in his career. He is on pace to hit 67 home runs this season.

Notable

  • Both teams were using their ABS challenges tonight. Of the nine combined pitches, seven of them were overturned. The two non overturned were from the Rangers.
  • Yerry De Los Santos saved the Yankees bullpen. He pitched 3.1 scoreless innings today, allowing the Yankees to use just him and Ryan Yarbough in a game that Warren could only get 12 outs. He will likely be optioned to AAA after the game to get a fresh reliever up for tomorrow. Notable that Yovanny Cruz did not pitch for the RailRiders today.
  • The Yankees still haven't figures out Nathan Eovaldi.

What's Next

The Yankees and the Rangers will play an early day game tomorrow—12:35 start. It will be a battle of the southpaws, Ryan Weathers for the Yankees and MacKenzie Gore for the Rangers.
